XenobladeX Formula

Model Kit

Incoming

From Nintendo’s open-world RPG Xenoblade X, the Doll unit Formula has been brought to life as a detailed plastic model kit by Kotobukiya. Faithfully capturing the sleek, high-speed design of this iconic Skell, the kit perfectly recreates Formula’s distinctive transformation from Doll form to vehicle form, delivering both visual impact and play value.

The model’s color scheme is based on the original design by renowned mecha designer Takayuki Yanase, with the coloring accurately reproduced through molded plastic colors for an impressive finish straight out of the box. Decals are also included to further enhance surface detail and realism. The transformation is smoothly realized through thoughtful part engineering, allowing builders to display Formula in either of its signature modes.

A wide range of weapons is included, such as a sword, machine gun, grenade, beam saber, and shield, enabling a variety of combat-ready display options. With its sharp silhouette, faithful transformation, and comprehensive armament, XenobladeX Formula is an essential addition for fans of the game and mecha model enthusiasts alike.

Flawed design and way over priced

I love Xenoblade, and I tried very hard to love this kit. I have assembled Kotobukiya kits in the past so I knew it won't be the same quality as Bandai kits. However, for a 3 figure price tag I would expect something of decent quality. The assembling was OK, and there are definitely steps that are confusing and easy to got wrong - I managed to fix all of my mistakes with some glues. It was a bit of a pain to put it together and many tiny pieces are easy to fall off. Again, glue to rescue. The water decaling was the worst - it was impossible to apply the long lines of decals without them warping and breaking. And when you finally put it together, you realized A LOT of colors are missing and you need to paint yourself. Again, I did not expect that from a 3 figure model kit. The final assembled size isn't even that big, probably around the size of a regular Bandai HG. I would recommend it if it's ~$50, but at over $100 it was a ripoff.

Beautiful, but flawed

I loved seeing a Gundam like mech in the game when I played it, and when I saw this had a model kit I knew I had to try it. I've been building and painting model kits for some time and I'm used to Bandai quality, so Koto's lack of good plastic and engineering was a bit jarring by my standards now for this kit. If you plan on painting this kit beware that the joints will become almost immobile if you paint over them. I had to strip the paint from the joints just to be able to get them to connect. The tolerances on this kit are incredibly tight so forcing parts together often will either break them or leave stress marks. Also, the price tag on this kit for the quality is almost intolerable; a triple digit price tag for this is insane honestly.

Looks good... Overpriced

First thing first: this thing has great shelf presence on account of the size of the wings and weapons. However, do be warned that the main body itself is not 11.81 CM, thats the height with the wings attached. The body itself is about the same size as a 1/144 Unicorn. Otherwise, for $120, this thing has horrific color accuracy worse than a HG kit (though that may just be something with Kotobukiya, this was my first kit from them), as in the hands of all things are color inaccurate. Even HGs have color accurate hands most of the time. The various joints are also questionable, namely the ball joints connecting the shoulders to the torso and the legs to the waist: unless I assembled them wrong, they barely hold the limbs in. The articulation is mostly fine, but more can certainly be asked of something with a triple-digit price. And finally, for $120, I expect a build that is on the level of an MG or at least a RG. This builds like a HG. Although it looks great on my shelf, I cannot believe this is remotely worth over a hundred, even with the wing and halo effects and waterslides (yes, this comes with waterslides). A better price point considering the build and color accuracy is probably half the asking price, in my opinion.
