★★★★good intro to resin kits
February 6, 2024

overall i had fun with this kit! this was the first resin kit i did and it definitely wont be my last. i didnt encounter any warping on the parts however for some reason on one of the lower leg armor parts, the pegs that latch on were off by a little bit. they broke off on the test fit however it still fits perfectly with the clear red and yellow default parts that go on the leg with it. i did have to replace both shoulder pieces that go on the clear red part due to one coming broken and the other that broke while i was sanding. the resin part was brittle. so i managed to replicate it with the original plastic part no problem. had something similar happen with the ankle armor parts. i used the default plastic parts cuz one of the two looked like the mold got messed up. i tried to sand it down and smooth it out but my result was horrible. maybe a better skilled resin huffer wont have an issue with it. overall this kit was amazing and i definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in being introduced to resin conversions. one note to anyone who reads this is to for sure make sure you wash this with purple power or any degreaser and with dish soap and tooth brush before painting. i did the mistake of just washing it with dish soap so i had primer and paint peeling off when i masked. live and learn for sure.

16 buckaroos? i've tried applying this in many ways and all i can get is a silver finish similar to Mr Color Silver. might as well just get that tbh. doubt im applying it wrong though as i got dspiae's chrome for $10 less and got the chrome result i wanted first try with the instructions that Odenkan recommends. id give it 1 star but the 2 star is just in case im applying it wrong... but doubt it.

no kidding, this is one thiccccc boiiiii of a primer lol. i ended up doing a 1:2 ratio at first but ended up doing a 1:2.5 ratio since it was pretty thick. did a test spray on a spoon and it came out good so not really a complaint here. this has the potential to be a good alternative when Mr Hobby primers arent in stock. just be aware of the thiiiicccccnessssss. same review for the grey and black primers too.

yoooo this kit is amazing! i built this with the lighting kit but i can tell that even without it, its one of the best that Bandai has ever done to this day. nothing about this kit feels cheap or feels like it was a second thought. my only small little complaint is that the interframe isnt that detailed compared to the PG Strike but the lighting module makes up for it and the armor color separation without painting is just *Chef kiss* but thats just a nitpick at best. also it becomes a little stiff when you add the wires but thats expected. maybe in the future bandai can make a kit with copper contact points to max out the articulation without compromise. i recommend this to anyone who has the dough to cough up to build and customize. even just adding a flat top coat as a customization will make this look one clean build. that being said, it looks amazing if you just snap build it.

the idea that mastergrades can look this good without painting is awesome! however there are soooooo many small parts and i ended up losing a few which i got sooo sad about especially when i held them before painting them. maybe if it wasnt so fragile or if they made a 4.0 with less parts but just as detailed, they'd get a 4th star.

★★★★★one of the best builds i've ever done

this is the first kit that i built and painted when i got into the hobby of painting my kits. you can build 80-90 percent of the frame without the armor which is awesome! comes into the border of a PG at a 1/100 scale. i've built and customized this kit twice and really considering going in for a 3rd. the hip joints didnt break on me but i still bought the metal replacement parts just in case it did happen. what did break on me was the joint that holds the rail gun but that was due to me unnecessarily painting that part and also making it too thick. live and learn but there is nothing bad that i can say about this kit.

built this kit cuz i wasnt able to find the perfect grade at the time. had that Strike itch so i pulled the plug and got this kit. if you just build it and apply the stickers on it without customization, its going to look OKAY i guess. i guess for the time, it did look detailed but then again i also came from my first kit ever being the Wing EW Ver Ka. i ended up scribing some details on this and gave it a custom paint job and ended up looking pretty good. its definitely a blank canvas for anyone that customizes their kits. if you have the time to do so, i bet you can make it look close to the PG Strike in terms of detail. i would love to see a 2.0 version of this kit as well.

the product alone is great. the result is awesome. the idea of having a gloss primer with one coat sounds amazing. however what i am having trouble with here is justifying the price for the pre thinned 35ml bottle at 7 bucks a pop. sure it does allow you to skip a couple of steps like thinning and adding a paint on top of the primer to get that gloss result but when i can get a 40ml jar of Mr color 1500 primer for a little over a dollar less than this product, i can invest in some thinner for $12 and thin that primer with 60ml of thinner and in results id have 3oz or 100ml of primer that will last me more than 3 kits. would i recommend this product for the ease of use? yes. can i justify the price for what you get? no. if it wasn't thinned of if it came in a 2-4 ounce bottle this can be easily priced at $5-$8 then id say this would be the go to product for all metallic paint jobs or glossy finishes.

1 Answer:

Odenkan's owner recommends thinning clear coats a further 1:1 for maximum flow and smoothness.
